About the marmot post

Yours truly

Snowdon 2011

Hi there!

Thanks for reading the marmot post. I started writing it a few years ago, because most of the times when I tried to research a hiking trip online, I only ever found bitty information.

I’ve been posting the patched up bits here together with trip reports and anything else hiking and trekking related that might be worth sharing.

I used to live in London – hence the England and Wales posts. I am now based in Munich, which makes exploring the Alps a lot easier.

Here is a selection of my posts to get you going:

If you’d like to contribute to the marmot post with a guest post about your own outdoors adventure, feel free to get in touch via the comments.

Otherwise, if you like anything on the blog, leave a comment. If you don’t, leave one too! There’s no other way to improve.

Happy reading!

    Hi,
    I love your post on planning a shortened version of the Alta Via 1.
    I had trouble opening the page that gives me options for shortening the route. Would you mind resenting that link or just guiding my fumbling technical skills in the right direction.
    Come hike in Colorado!🤓
    Thanks ever so much!
    Anne

    1. Hi Anne!

      Thanks!

      I think I found the link you mean. It looks like the site has shut down 😦 Annoyingly that keeps happening. Unfortunately, I can’t help with that. (I’ll remove the link though).

      Maybe these posts could help you further:
      * my 6 day route: https://marmotpost.wordpress.com/2011/06/26/along-the-alta-via-1-in-six-days-the-route/
      * Lauralee’s 6 day hike: https://marmotpost.wordpress.com/2015/10/18/alta-via-1-solo/
      * some more trip reports from across the web: https://marmotpost.wordpress.com/2014/05/11/alta-via-1-revisited-more-trip-reports/

      All the best with the rest of the trip planning and have fun hiking!

        Hi! Love this site. Thank you. I will be in Munich in December. Are there any reasonable nature/mountain hikes nearby which will be acceptable in winter?

      2. Hi Bill! Glad to hear you like the site! All of the hikes listed here should be doable in winter: https://marmotpost.wordpress.com/2018/07/22/day-trip-munich-alps-hiking/. Just check the huts. Some of them might be closed in winter. Best, Marketa

  2. Hi, thanks for stopping by my blog, and for following me. You have a beautiful travel blog here, I’m looking forward to following your adventures in the Alps, from here in the not very mountainous Atlanta, Georgia area!

    1. Hi Elisa! Glad you like the marmot post! Likewise thanks for stopping by. You have a nice mix of US and European posts on yours. It was an easy decision to follow you. M.

    Hi, I am planning to walk the first 5 days of the AV2 in the last week of June this year. If possible I would like to know more about the aided sections on this walk. Particularly on stages 4-5 as given in the Cicerone guide.
    Thanks,

    Martin

    1. Hi Martin,

      Thanks for reading my blog and leaving a comment. Unfortunately, I’ve only walked the AV1 and don’t have first hand experience of the Alta Via 2. Looking through the Cicerone guide it sounds like the aided sections on days 4 and 5 are not via ferrate. However, my guess is as good as yours. The best way to tell will be to look at the map. Or maybe there could be more info on http://www.planetmountain.com.

      Sorry I can’t help more. Let me know what you find out.

      m.
