1st August at Chamanna d’Es-cha

A becon fire in the Alps

1st August beacon fire at Chamanna d’Es-cha (2,594 m)

1st August was the first day of my reverse Kesch trek trip. It is also the Swiss National Day. It commemorates the founding of the Swiss Confederation in 1291. The Swiss celebrate it with fireworks and beacon fires across the Alps.

Here are a few photos of the impressive beacon fire lit at the Chamanna d’Es-cha (2,594 m), where I stayed the first night of the trek.

Fire at an Alpine hut

It was a big fire …

Fire sparkles in the mountains

… with many sparks

A beacon fire

Is that a chair in the fire?
