Fresh air for your bank holiday weekend

Camping in Snowdonia

The bank holiday season is nearly here. If you are looking for a trip for next week or one of the future bank holiday weekends here are a few suggestions.

Walk up Snowdon

Choose one of the many routes and go up the highest mountain in Wales. That’s what I did last May bank holiday. I hope you’ll enjoy better weather than I did. Though looking outside the window, the chances of that are quite slim. It was fun even in the rain!

Backpack through the Peak District

Peak District is Hobbit land pure. Here is a suggestion for a weekend circular trip from Edale to Hope and back. Particularly the ridge walk from Loose Hill to Mam Tor is great fun.

Explore the Brecon Beacons

Brecon Beacons aren’t too far away from London and with all of their undulating ridges, they are gorgeous. I’ve collated suggestions for 7 day trips in Brecon Beacons in a previous post. For a longer adventure you can go wild camping along the Brecon Beacons ridge. Or you could try one of these trips, which should be fun even without the snow:

Marketa, here is a link you might find interesting and may give you some more ideas. It is a photo diary of an entusiastic walker in the Lakes and it is updated regularly. Some great pics.

    Enjoy, Martin

Marketa, it might be a longer drive but my favourite place to be in a long weekend was the National Trust campsite in Great Langdale. Walk off the campsite in the morning and turn right for bacon and eggs at the New Dungeon Gyll. Have a great day on the fells (Langdale Pikes, Bow Fell etc). In the evening Cumberland sausage washed down with a great pint at the end of the day in the Old Dungeon Gyll. Loads to do in Langdale, it’s never boring. Enjoy the holidays.

    1. Hi Martin,

Thanks for this. It sounds really good – a whole package top and tailed with a pub stop – perfect. 🙂

And that link is really good too! Just need to find the time for the drive now.
